Welcome to Dochas Counselling Services.

I hope you are able to get a sense of what is offered, and to feel comfortable working with me.

Are you feeling stressed, tired, or overwhelmed? Are you having difficulty controlling your anger? Do you have a conflict with someone in your life that you would like support to address? Do you have a new diagnosis that feels daunting to process?

Those are just some of the challenges that clients bring to me to discuss and work through.

Whether you're just starting out with therapy, or picking up where you have left off, be assured that I will support you wherever you are on your path to wellness.

Love is Love, and Deserves Respect

I live my life and engage in my work from a Pro-Choice, Pro-Love, Pro-Freedom, Pro-Justice perspective. These are fundamental values that I am passionate about.

My Story

Stephanie Dennis

Thanks for taking the time to check out this website.

I am a Hamiltonian, born and raised --

I attended Queen's University, as well as McMaster University.

I was born with cleft-lip and palate, which is a congenital condition that requires multiple (17 in my case) surgeries to repair.

As such, I spent a lot of time as a child at various hospitals. I also spent a lot of time as a kid trying to hide from the world, because I was scared that people wouldn't like me if they saw that I was different.

My life experiences have entirely shaped my desire to find self-love and support other people in prioritizing their mental health and wellness, too!

I have training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and Dialectical Therapy, among others.

Doing private practice is my life's passion, and I genuinely would love to hear from you.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT

I wish to acknowledge the area in which I work and live (Hamilton, ON) is situated upon the traditional territories of the Erie, Neutral, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee and Mississaugas.  This land is covered by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, which was an agreement between the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabek to share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes. Further, this land is covered by the Between the Lakes Purchase, 1792, between the Crown and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.

Today, the City of Hamilton is home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island (North America) and I recognize that we must do more to learn about the rich history of this land so that we can better understand our roles as residents, neighbours, partners and caretakers.

I stand in solidarity with murdered and missing Indigenous women, girls, transgender and two-spirit people.

The following links include different traditional territory settlements in Ontario, as well as an interpretation of the Dish with One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant. Click on these linksbelow to learn more.
